GRIDAKL Video Series

We partner with some very clever people. One of our stellar clients, GridAKL, wanted to develop a video project to speak to their key stakeholders and innovative start-ups, founders and SMEs in science, tech, innovation and the creative sectors working in isolation and interested in joining the GridAKL community. The key objective of the project was to inspire entrepreneurs and founders to follow their dreams and start their business journey at GridAKL.

GridAKL are values-led and clearly not purely profit-driven – and the flexible working spaces, business mentor and learning sessions, café, ping-pong table, yoga lunchtimes and inspiring events calendar are only bit players in a deeper conscious culture and community. GridAKL’s Community & Services Relationship Manager Catriona Stewart is all about sharing the culture and values of GridAKL as an integral part of Wynyard Quarter’s “innovation precinct.” She is an innate connector.

"We were instantly aligned with the provocation that to simply share the experience and success stories of existing GridAKL companies was an authentic way of communicating the GridAKL ethos."

As production partners we were delighted to collaborate on a creative brief that eschewed testimonial, overt hype or promotion, and CTA. GridAKL isn’t the focus – its association is implicit. We instantly aligned with the provocation that to simply share the experience and success stories of existing GridAKL companies was an authentic way of communicating the GridAKL ethos. The successes of these amazing tech companies are supported and celebrated by the GridAKL community. This approach means simply telling the story of what real people are doing to capture the audience’s attention and favour. It’s stepping out and being creative with truth.

Catriona and the team identified several residents they wanted to showcase (it was tough – there are plenty) and we set to work meeting and talking to develop three treatments: –

Metia Interactive’s Founder and MD Maru Nihoniho needs no introduction – a powerhouse of leadership and creativity. Our second story focussed on the magic of mentorship and collaboration between the amazing Mel Langlotz and Geo AR Games and the young talent at RageQuit Studios (Scott Thomson, Gabriel Mugadza and Tyrone Mills). A third story featured CEO/Co-Founder James McCarthy and the thriving app Cradle which provides online calling services for B2B businesses using Hubspot as their CRM, marketing sales or customer success platform.

Our mandate was simple: - to share stories of people achieving great things at GridAKL. To background and celebrate their achievements, their humanity and bring a light touch and fun to the process. We aimed for the tone resonant of the GridAKL culture – positive, warm, casual and a little playful. Each of the stories was crafted with a similar tone and style but had distinct personalities.

We shot simple interviews with each of the Founders and used these as a narrative thread intercut with B-Roll of the teams in action. We aimed for warm, clear images with judicious use of long-lens and close-up detail and were excited to be able to include some selects from the gaming assets.

GridAKL were delighted with the project as were the Founders and their teams. As production partners, it was a pleasure and a privilege creating business stories that are watchable, shareable and memorable.
